Many from a broad spectrum of the Liberian society have describe as flawed the ongoing National Population and Housing Census flawed and called for it to be halted and redone at another time, but authorities say the process is on course being professionally done.

But latest statistics from the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo Information Services (LISGIS) shows that about 1.6 million people have already been counted, less than a month since the start of the exercise that has been marred by logistical and technical nightmare, with thousands of census enumerators publically disgruntled over lack of pay.

The latest statistics was released by LISGIS on Thursday, November 24, 202I at the Ministry of Information press briefing.

LISGIS acting Director General, Lawrence George expressed optimism that there will be a big jump in the enumeration exercise in the coming days.

Despite a recent call by Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor and other calls for citizens to cooperate with the process, it is widely reported that people in many parts of Liberia are yet to see LISGIS Enumerators in their areas to have them counted.

Meanwhile, LISGIS acting Director General George has apologizes to the public for discomfort experience at beginning of counting process.

He is however, calling on citizens to make themselves available to be counted despite the challenges facing the conduct of the census.
