The Ministry of Health over the weekend confirmed four active cases of Mpox in Liberia, prompting a swift national response to contain further spread and safeguard public health.

According to an official press release, the confirmed cases are spread across three counties: two in Montserrado, one in Margibi, and one in Sinoe. The ministry reported that upon receiving notification of the Montserrado cases, immediate steps were taken to isolate the patient at the National Infectious Disease Center, where they are now under continuous professional medical care.

“The Ministry of Health has activated its case management pillar,” the statement reads, emphasizing its commitment to protecting citizens and preventing an outbreak.”

Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and follow precautionary guidelines, especially those showing symptoms such as rash, fever, or headache. Individuals are advised to avoid close contact with others and report symptoms to the nearest health facility without delay. Health teams will manage suspected cases and conduct appropriate testing.

In a significant step forward, the ministry also announced the arrival and rollout of Mpox vaccines in Liberia. Over 2,000 individuals across Grand Cape Mount, Nimba, Grand Bassa, and Sinoe counties have already been vaccinated. The vaccination strategy is being prioritized for high-risk groups, including frontline health workers and those involved in surveillance and case management.

All identified contacts of confirmed cases are to be vaccinated, and preparations are underway to intensify surveillance and begin vaccination activities in Lofa, Montserrado, and Margibi counties.

“The Ministry of Health deeply appreciates the continued cooperation of all citizens,” the release concludes, “and assures the public that it is working with urgency and diligence to contain this situation and ensure the safety of all.”

Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official health channels and to support ongoing efforts aimed at curbing the spread of Mpox in Liberia.
