Boakai Gov’t Commits Support To Healthcare In West Africa

President Joseph Boakai has assured delegates at the 18th biannual general meeting of the West African Post Graduate College of Nursing and Midwifery of the Liberian government’s commitment in supporting the health delivery system in the region.

President Boakai said it is based on the back ground that the Liberian government is working with West African countries in combating the spread and outbreak of diseases in the region.

President Boakai’s statement was contained in speech delivered on his behalf at the Ambassador at Large, Charles Snetter at the opening of the18th biannual general meeting of the West African Post Graduate College of Nursing and Midwifery in Congo Town east of Monrovia.

He thanked the delegates at the West African Post Graduate College of Nursing and Midwifery for choosing Monrovia for the biannual meeting and wished them a successful deliberation.

According to President Boakai, the Liberian government attaches seriousness to the health system not only in Liberia but the West African region.  in the country.

He congratulated the midwives and nurses for meeting and encouraged them to deliberate on issues that will help improve the health delivery system in the West African region.

Meanwhile, the President of the West African Post Graduate College of Nurses and Midwives has appealed to governments in the West African region to assist the institution in construction of a headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

The college’s President, Dr. Saleh Garba, disclosed that the college has purchased a portion of land in Abuja and needs the assistance since international funding has reduced drastically.

Dr. Garba made the appeal when he delivered his message at the second day of the 18th biannual general meeting of the West African Post Graduate College of Nurses and Midwives taking in Congo Town east of Monrovia on Wednesday.

Delivering the keynote speech at the program, a Liberian public health expert, Mrs. Woseh Gobeh-Weah, advanced a number a recommendation aimed at improving nursing and midwives’ services in the West African region.

Madam  Gobeh Weah recommend that nurses and midwives should engage governments for more funding and be scientific in their undertakings.

During the program, honorary fellowship of the college was presented to several personalities including First lady, katumu Boakai, Mrs. Woseh Gobeh-Weah, Augustus Flomo for their contributions to the college and health sector in the West African region

The meeting, under the theme: “Collaboration and Partnership towards Improving Quality Healthcare in the West African Region,” brought together over 450 delegates from the West African region.
