18 of the forty July 26 criminal suspects jailed for 3 months in Kakata

Eighteen of the forty 40 persons arrested during the July 26 Independence Season by officers of the Liberia National Police Detachment in Kakata, Margibi County have been sentenced to three months in jail by the Magisterial Court.

The 18, who are said to have had previous criminal records, are to serve their sentence at the Kakata Central Prison, some 73 kilometers from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Speaking to Reporters on Tuesday July 30, 2019, the Police Chief Superintendent of Margibi County Sylvester Hina said the eighteen persons were charged for unwholesome activities and loitering by the Police, who had earlier forwarded them Court for persecution.

But the the remaining 22 persons were released.

He said during police investigation, it was discovered that the 18 persons who are behind bars have criminal records and needed not to be released.

Officer Hina added that the Kakata Magisterial Court on the other hand sentenced the 18 persons to jail, who are spending their first week behind.s

He also disclosed that the other 22 persons were released because investigation showed that they were not engaged in any unwholesome behavior.

Commander Hina then reiterated called for Margibians to help the Police curb crimes in the County stating that the security of Margibi does not only lie with the police.

On the night of Liberia’s 172nd Independence Day (July 26, 2019), the police arrested by the Police from their various locations in Kakata with marijuana and other harmful substances. They were also carrying other objects such as scissors, steel rod and knives, among other things.

The raid was part of the Police’s seasonal operational plans that it institutes during every festive season to make the City of Kakata free of criminals.
