A Political Institution Of Resilience And Democratic Fortitude
By Cephas M.M.D Flanzamaton–National Vice Chair for Inter-Party Liberty National Executive Committee
Monrovia, Liberia – For two decades, from May 19, 2005, to May 19, 2025, our institution (LP) has stood as a bastion of democratic principles, forging a path for progressive governance, rule of law, and unwavering commitment to Liberia’s political maturation.
We have weathered storms and confronted challenges, and we emerged stronger, demonstrating an indomitable spirit that is synonymous with our identity.
In the labyrinth of Liberia’s political evolution, our institution has championed the ideals of justice, democratic pluralism, and the unshakable belief that leadership must be anchored in constitutional sanctity.
Through electoral battles, ideological confrontations, and institutional tests, we have manifested resilience, refusing to succumb to the shifting tides of expedient politics.
Twenty years of steadfast engagement within the political arena have not been without trials, but trials are the anvil upon which great institutions like ours are forged.
The Liberty Party has not merely existed; it has endured and refined itself into a formidable entity poised for national leadership.
The vision of governance rooted in democratic accountability remains our guiding compass, ensuring that our political aspirations transcend fleeting ambitions and embody enduring convictions.
As we commemorate this milestone, we must pause to honor the architects of this noble institution, particularly the revered statesman, a legal luminary, Cllr. (late) Charles Walker Brumskine, whose dedication to democratic tenets and constitutional governance remains etched in our collective consciousness.
His leadership was not defined by mere rhetoric but by tangible commitment, and his passion for Liberia was not decorative; it was substantive.
In my journey, I was privileged to witness his boundless generosity, his mentorship towards me, and his sincere investment in the future of our institution, the Liberty Party, and Liberia.
He did not merely espouse the virtues of justice; he embodied them. Through his tutelage, I and many others became acolytes of democratic integrity, equipped with the knowledge that political leadership must be driven not by personal aggrandizement but by an unrelenting dedication to national prosperity.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy pulses through the veins of this institution, urging us forward and reminding us that our political duty is not just to participate but to transform.
As we (Liberty Party partisans) stand at the threshold of our next chapter, I reflect on my journey of service within this institution.
As a passionate young man who was personally recruited by our founder, Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, in 2009 because of the emergence of now Sen. Abe Darius Dillon in the senatorial race, I began my journey of leadership as chairman of the Liberty Party Youth for Positive Change (LPYPC).
From my successive roles as chairman of the Montserrado Youth Congress, upwards as national vice chair for administration of the Gallant National Youth Congress, and ultimately chairman of the Gallant National Youth Congress, I have poured my dedication into strengthening the foundation of the Liberty Party’s youth leadership.
Today, I stand honored as National Vice Chairman for the Inter-Party Liberty Party National Executive Committee, where I continue to contribute to the party’s strategic decision-making and unwavering political advancement.
Through trials and triumphs, the LP remains unshaken. Our institutions have demonstrated resilience, our vision is clearer, and our mission to ascend to national leadership is steadfast.
As we celebrate this historic anniversary, I express profound appreciation to the leaders who have carried this party forward: our political leader, Sen. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence; our national chairperson, Hon. Rugie Barry; the unwavering National Executive Committee; the Advisory Council; our county leadership; and, above all, the loyal partisans who embody the spirit of the Liberty Party.
The Liberty Party is not merely an entity; it is a movement, an ideology, and a commitment to Liberia’s democratic progress.
With two decades behind us, we now look ahead with certainty, certainty that our resilience will yield political leadership at the helm of our national governance.
This anniversary is not just a commemoration; it is an affirmation that the Liberty Party remains steadfast in its mission, undeterred by adversity, and resolute in its pursuit of democratic excellence.
Let us, as custodians of this vision, redouble our efforts, stand unwavering in our convictions, and remain resolute in ensuring that the Liberty Party’s future is as luminous as its aspirations.
Happy 20th Anniversary to us!!
