Ms. Bendu Tour, the 19-year-old baby mother who caused her 22-month-old baby to drown by dumping her into the St. John River, has been formally charged and sent to court in Liberia’s northeastern Nimba County.
Police have charged Bendu with Negligent homicide in Nimba County.
The 19 woman has also
been indicted by the Grand jury of Nimba County for the crime of Negligent Homicide
and is awaiting court trial soon.
On September 24, 2019, the young mother deliberately threw her baby into the River.
A situation which created
several fool of thought among citizens in Nimba County, questioning who should
be blamed in this situation. The step mother and father alleged that the suspect
claimed that the father of the baby has abandoned his own responsibility.
The throwing of the 22months old baby into the St. John River occurred in Duo
Town, Zahn Chiefdom, Nimba County.
The throwing of baby into St. John River by her 19 years old mother Bendu
Tour came at the result when she was staying in her parent’s house was
thrown out of the house by her step mother, Victoria Konah Tour. Her own
father later endorsed the action because Bendu was too disobedient to
them.
The defendant Bendu admitted of committing the crime to the police, admitting
that she did throw the baby into the St. John River, because she was put out by
her parents and she has no means to taking care of the child survivor.
Defendant Bendu stated that she was reacting to her parent’s decision something
that led her with no alternative but to throw the baby in the river.
However, many of the citizens commenting on the matter said, suspect Bendu
throwing her baby into the St. John River was out of frustration and besides
who could help her take care of the child when the father is paying less
attention giving this prevailing economic crisis.
Some of the locals added that she needed counseling. While others said she
should be subjected to harsh punishment or death sentence for carrying out such
wackiness against that innocent child.
