2 Liberian Journalists Reportedly Beaten Up By Police In Lofa County

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has described the attacks against two Journalists covering the electoral process in Lofa County by state securities as malicious and a violation of their fundamental rights, a press release from the Union said on Thursday, June 30, 2022.

Journalists Emmanuel Kollie of state broadcaster ELBC and Amos Korzawu of a private news outlet Fortune TV were reported beaten by officers of the Liberia National Police in Foya right before the Police Station while carrying out their reportorial duties.

The Journalists told the PUL that they were assaulted, intimidated and flogged while specifically covering a clashes between a Pro UP and CDC supporters in Foya district on Wednesday June 29, 2022.

According to them they cannot identify any of the police officers involve as a result of the pressure they were put under during the discharge of their duties.

The Journalists told the Union that their lives were under threat after the officer pointed guns directly at them despite displaying their identities but the riot officer who were unreasonable in beating them.

Meanwhile, the Press Union of Liberia is calling on the Liberia National \police to speedily launch an investigation into the situation and punish those liable for the brutal action against the Journalists.

Police authorities are yet to react to the reports of attacks on the two Journalists.
