26 Liberian Political Parties To Sign Code Of Conduct Deal To Stamp Out Elections Violence

Twenty six political parties and coalitions in Liberia are expected to sign an agreement aimed at curbing pre and post electoral violence during the senatorial elections slated for 2020.

The National Elections Commission Director of Political Affairs, Ignatius Wisseh, disclosed that the political parties and coalitions will sign the agreement as soon as they complete the revision of the code of conduct governing the 2020 senatorial elections

Mr. Wisseh spoke at the beginning of a two-day conference on the revision of the code of conduct for political parties and coalitions organized by the National Elections Commission sponsored by the United Nations Development Program in Monrovia

According to Mr. Wisseh, the rules governing pre and post electoral activities were drafted by the political parties and coalitions under the umbrella of all the political parties,

The NEC Director of Political Affairs maintained that the political parties will also develop mechanism through which punitive action will be taken against political institutions that will violate the rules.

The conference brought together chairmen and secretary generals of political parties and coalitions , representatives of the National Elections Commission, the United Nations Development  Programs, among others.
