8 Liberian Students Taking Off For Advanced Studies Abroad On ArcelorMittal Scholarship

Scholarship beneficiaries, ArcelorMittal and Liberian gov’t officials pose for photo at the program

ArcelorMattal Liberia has signed the six edition of its advanced academic studies scholarship for eight students to study aboard.

The signing ceremony was held in Monrovia on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at a local hotel.

ArcelorMattal Liberia as part of its advanced academic studies scholarship, offer about two hundred thousand United States dollars yearly for students to study internationally.

This year, about eight students were awarded the scholarship to study aboard in different disciplines including Master of Engineering Management, Master in Occupational Safety and Health, Master in Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development and Biodiversity Conservation, Masters of Engineering CTM, Highway &Transport Engineering, Master in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and Master in Economic Geology.

The scholarship will allow students study in Kenya, Malaysia, Cypus , India , Asia and Padua respectively.

The eight people include S. Augustine P. Weah Jr., Janneh V. Dukuly, Mamadee M. Kamara, Tim Telyon, Thomas N. Gmamlue Jr, Leo Kla Wilson and Abigail K. Nanon.

Speaking at the formal signing ceremony of the MOU Wednesday September 15, 2021 in Monrovia, ArcelorMattal Global Chief Executive Officer Simon Wandke challenged beneficiaries to return home after their studies and make Liberia better noting that it is the Company wish to see Liberians holding or owning great companies and in top positions.

Mr. Wandke however encouraged them to make life great through the scholarship opportunity explaining that they will be given opportunity to visit ArcelorMattal Offices in their respective countries of studies around the World during their vacation period but urged them not to stop learning.

‘’it is a great privilege for you to learn new things and new culture that will help transform your life and Liberia, never stop learning, network with other people, institutions for the success of the study’’ Mr. Wandke said.

For his part, the head of Corporate Services at ArcelorMattal Liberia Steve Stevquoah challenged beneficiaries as they leave the country to take their study serious and make Liberia proud.

Stevquoah want beneficiaries serve as good ambassadors for ArcelorMattal and Liberia by serving as agent of positive change during and after their studies in order to make Liberia a great nation.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Ministries of Mines & Energy, Education and National Bureau of Concessions urged students or beneficiaries not to waste the opportunity but called on them to make maximum use of it and make Liberia a better place.

They however commended ArcelorMattal Liberia for contributing to the growth and development of Liberia.

For their part, the beneficiaries expressed joy and commended the company for the great opportunity to study aboard.

‘’We are grateful to the vetting committee for the process, it was conducted with integrity and fairness than expected and we want to use this time to say thank you for the level of transparency,’’ Ms. Abigail K. Nanon said.

Speaking on behalf of the male, Mamadee M. Kamara noted that they feel honored and blessed to have received such a great opportunity.

Kamara however lauded the Company for investing in their capacity building noting that ArcelorMattal Liberia is also contributing to the growth and development of the country.

‘’I want to use this time to reject report that most of the scholarship are pre-arranged  which is false and misleading, this  vetting process was challenging but a fair process with lot of integrity people,’’ he observed.
