Monrovia, Liberia- The Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding (CEMESP) today conducted a one-day training workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organization (CSO) partners to effectively use the media, social media, and other communication platforms to enhance the visibility and impact of their projects in the extractive sector, environmental rehabilitation, and community-based monitoring.
The workshop was organized by CEMESP with funding support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a CEMESP press release said on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The training brought together representatives of CSO partner organizations and focused on practical communication strategies for ensuring that project activities, achievements, community concerns, and advocacy messages receive greater public attention.
Participants were equipped with tools and approaches to communicate their work more effectively, reach wider audiences, and build stronger public understanding of issues affecting communities in the extractive and environmental sectors.
Veteran media trainer Frank Sainworla, Jr., Managing Editor of Public Trust Media Group, www.newspublictrust.com and independent communication specialist Antoinette Sendolo served as facilitators. Among the key topics covered were writing and distributing effective press releases, building and maintaining relationships with the Liberian media, and effectively using social media to enhance project visibility, among other communication and media engagement strategies.
The facilitators also emphasized the importance of identifying newsworthy project activities and presenting information in ways that are relevant and accessible to journalists and the wider public.
Opening the workshop, CEMESP Finance and Administration Manager Dickson Williams welcomed participants and encouraged them to take advantage of the training to strengthen their organizations’ communication and public engagement efforts. CEMESP Program Associate Christopher Seton provided an overview of the workshop, outlining its objectives and expected outcomes. The training was held in the conference room of CEMESP in Monrovia.
CEMESP believes that strengthening the communication capacity of CSOs is critical to promoting transparency, accountability, environmental protection, and meaningful community participation in Liberia’s extractive sector.
The organization expressed appreciation to GIZ for its funding support and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting civil society organizations with the skills and tools needed to effectively communicate their work, engage the media, and amplify the voices of communities through traditional and digital media platforms.
