Monrovia, Liberia – As the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS) prepares to celebrate its 10th Annual General Scientific Meeting (AGSM) and Convocation on September 17–18, 2026, the College is commending the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) for its enduring contribution to postgraduate medical education and its vital role in strengthening Liberia’s specialist healthcare capacity, a LCPS press release said on Friday, August 7, 2026.
For decades, John F. Kennedy Medical Center has served as Liberia’s premier national referral hospital, providing specialized care to patients from across the country, while creating an environment where future physicians are trained and mentored.
As one of LCPS’ principal teaching hospitals, JFK Medical Center plays a critical role in preparing physicians for specialist practice. Through supervised clinical training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, resident doctors develop the knowledge, confidence, and professional judgment required to provide quality care to patients and communities across Liberia.
Speaking in Congo Town on Friday August 7, 2026 ahead of the College’s landmark 10th AGSM and Convocation, LCPS President Professor John K. Mulbah described JFK Medical Center as an essential partner in Liberia’s journey toward a self-reliant specialist healthcare system.
“No country can build a strong specialist workforce without strong teaching hospitals. For more than a decade, John F. Kennedy Medical Center has provided the clinical environment where resident doctors gain the experience and skills needed to become specialists who serve Liberia. The College deeply appreciates the commitment of the hospital’s leadership, consultants, healthcare professionals, and support staff whose dedication continues to shape the future of healthcare in our country.”
Since its establishment in 2012, LCPS has graduated more than 155 medical specialists who now serve in public and private healthcare institutions across Liberia. This achievement reflects the collective commitment of the College, teaching hospitals, faculty members, and healthcare professionals working together to expand access to specialized medical care within the country.
Beyond specialist training, JFK Medical Center remains a vital national institution where patient care, clinical learning, research, and professional development intersect. Its dual role as a referral hospital and teaching institution has made it an indispensable partner in Liberia’s journey toward a stronger, more sustainable healthcare system.
Given its critical role, the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons is therefore encouraging the government of Liberia to invest more in the institution through increased resources, infrastructure support, and capacity-building initiatives.
Prof. Mulbah noted that strengthening JFK Medical Center is not only an investment in a healthcare facility but also an investment in Liberia’s healthcare workforce and the long-term health of the nation.
As LCPS celebrates its 10th Annual General Scientific Meeting and Convocation under the theme, “Resilient, Equitable, and Sustainable Health Systems for Liberia 2030,” the College recognizes the partnerships that have made a decade of postgraduate medical education possible. The event will bring together medical specialists, resident doctors, policymakers, researchers, and health sector partners to reflect on achievements and explore opportunities for advancing Liberia’s healthcare system.
