Central Monrovia-based Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division club DownTown FC has officially appointed experienced Liberian football coach Gerald Julius as its new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Julius, who previously managed Roots FC, Monrovia Breweries, Freeport FC, and Black Man Warrior FC, signed his contract on Friday, July 31, at the club’s headquarters in Central Monrovia. The signing ceremony was attended by the club’s President and CEO, EC Pokah K. Roberts, and Secretary General, who represented the club.
The appointment underscores DownTown FC’s ambition to strengthen the team and compete for major domestic honors in the upcoming campaign.
Julius replaces Coach Sam Chebli, who mutually parted ways with the club on June 25, 2026.
The club has tasked the newly appointed coach with leading DownTown FC to either the LFA First Division League title or the Orange Cup during the new season.
Speaking during his official unveiling, Julius outlined a long-term vision focused on youth development, stressing the importance of nurturing talented young players rather than relying heavily on experienced veterans. His philosophy aligns with that of club President and CEO EC Pokah K. Roberts, who currently serves as Co-Chair of the Liberia Football Association’s Grassroots Football Committee.
“Being at an LFA First Division club like DownTown FC gives me the opportunity to work with young players, develop them, and build a competitive team for the future,” Julius said.
He added:
“Our objective is to compete for the LFA First Division League title and the Orange Cup. We will not let the club president, management, and supporters down. We are here to make our mark and achieve great success together.”
Julius’ appointment marks a new chapter for DownTown FC as preparations intensify for the 2026/27 Liberia Football Association season.
The club has not yet disclosed the duration of the coach’s contract.
