GBARNGA, Liberia- The only referral Hospital in the central Liberian Bong County, Phebe is set to resume normal operations to the public today, Monday, July 20, 2020, after almost a month of closure due to Coronavirus attacks on several of its health workers.
This comes as Liberia’s COVID-19 cases across the country goes up to 1,091
The Hospitals Communications Director, Samuel Kplaiwru made the disclosure to Journalists in Suakoko near Gbarnga, which is over 180 kilometers east of Monrovia.
Three Nurses were among several health workers at the hospital were infected with the virus.
The hospital was on June 26 this year closed by the administration after advice by a team from the Liberia COVID-19 Incident Management System headed by Dr. Samson Arzoaquoio.
The facility was to be closed for about four days to allow it to be disinfected after several health workers at the hospital was tested positive, but the closure was extended.
Mr. Kplaiwru disclosed that the hospital has now been disinfected in order to reopen it to the public, adding that the administration of the hospital has now removed COVID-19 patients from the hospital’s isolation wall to the newly constructed treatment unit in the County.
The Phebe Hospital Communications chief also said some of the patients at the isolation wall (COVID-19) has recovered including the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Jefferson Sibley from the coronavirus.
The County Health Team headed by Dr. Adolphus Yeiah has been “instrumental and supportive” of the hospital’s plan to resume normal activities, Mr. Kplaiwru said.
Despite what appears to be misinterpretations of information relating to the reopening of the hospital, Mr. Kplawiru encouraged citizens of the county not to panic.
He furthered disclosed that through the County Health Team and the Hospital Administration, Phebe Hospital can now boast of having a modern treatment center for patients.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kplawiru also encouraged citizens of the county and patients making use of the health facility to follow all health protocols prescribed by the Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and the World Health organization to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.
