Amid Growing Division In Society, Margibi County Supt. Calls For Unity Among Officials

As Coalition Of Civil Society Organizations Honors The County’s First Female Superintendent, Victoria Wolobah Duncan

KAKATA, Liberia – Margibi County’s first female Superintendent, Victoria Wolobah Duncan has been given her flowers while she’s still alive by a civil society organization “Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Liberia” at a colourful program here recently celebrating what they called, achievements and leadership here in the County’s capital.

Speaking at the ceremony early this week (April 1, 2025), the head of COCSO, Father Bladee added that the recondition comes in light of Supt. Duncan remarkable contributions to Margibi County, particularly her initiatives aimed at improving local governance, Community safety, and transparency a pellar under the “AREST” Agenda spearheaded by President Joseph Numah Boakia.

The CACSO Executive Director, Mr. Bladee said that Madam Duncan has been at the helm of Margibi County’s administration for a significant period, showcasing exemplary leadership that has brought tangible changes to the community.

According to the civil society leader, her notable achievements is the successful decongestion of Kakata City, a vital urban area in Margibi County.

Mr. Bladee also said under her stewardship, City planning initiatives have been implemented, resulting in improved traffic flow and the better organization of public spaces, making Kakata a more navigable and safer environment for residents and visitors alike, through the collaborative effort of the Kakata City Cooperation and the joint security of Margibi.

The Executive Director of CACSO furthered said that another key reason for Supt. Doucan’s recognition is the fact that during her tenure, local security measures have been enhanced, adding that the Margibi Superintendent has recognized the urgent need for a stronger police presence to ensure the safety of citizens.

“Through her diligent efforts, she has secured a police patrol vehicle for the county, which has significantly bolstered law enforcement capabilities. This move has not only helped reduce crime rates but has also fostered greater peace of mind among community members, who now feel more secure in their daily lives,” the CACSO Executive Director stated.

In addition to her focus on infrastructure and security, the civil society group said the Margibi County Superintendent has made strides in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

According to CACSO, Superintendent Victoria Duncan’s recent declaration of assets, valued at over US$600,000, has set a high standard for public officials in Liberia. “By openly sharing her financial status, she has reinforced her commitment to ethical leadership and encouraged other officials to adopt similar practices for the sake of public trust and integrity.”

Citizens’ reaction

The ceremony recognizing her achievements was attended by local leaders, members of the civil society coalition, and supporters who spoke of her transformative impact on Margibi County. Speeches were delivered highlighting her dedication, vision, and the significant strides her administration has made in just a few years.

For his part, Mr. Peter Baryou, a prominent traditional leader in District #5 Margibi County praised the Civil Society organizations for their far-sightness to recognize Supt. Duncan achievements doing the year in review.

Supt. Duncan says progress in togetherness

In her acceptance speech, Madam Duncan expressed her gratitude for the honor and emphasized that the recognition belongs to all the residents of Margibi County.

“This award is not just for me; it is for everyone who believed in the vision of a better Margibi County. Together, we have made progress, but there is much more work to do,” she stated passionately.

The direct representative Ground jurie of President Boakia in Margii County further called for unity between local government officials and put their political difference aside to move Margibi forward.

“Disunity can’t help us as citizens of our beloved county, if we a to move forward, we must put hands on disk” Supt. Duncan explained.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations noted that honoring individuals like Superintendent Duncan is crucial in motivating current and future leaders to engage in practices that benefit their communities.

It is said that her leadership serves as an inspiration, particularly for women in Liberia, showcasing the importance of representation and women’s involvement in governance.

As Margibi County continues to move forward under her leadership, the legacy of Victoria W. Duncan is expected to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to the development and well-being of all citizens.

Her recent recognition by the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations stands as a testament to the positive change that dedicated public service can bring to a community.
