KAKATA, Liberia — Liberia Football Association (LFA) Executive Committee Member Christian Weah Sr. has been appointed Chairperson of the Margibi County Sports Association (MSA) by directive of the Chief Patron of Sports and Superintendent of the County, Ojay Godfavor Morris.
Mr. Weah’s appointment was announced early Monday, September 7, through the official Facebook page of Margibi County Information Officer Danny D. Moses.
The appointment follows an urgent appeal from numerous citizens of Margibi County and beyond, who called for the speedy reorganization of the county’s sporting administration ahead of the 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet, one of Liberia’s most widely followed sporting festivals. The competition is expected to kick off in November 2026.
Also appointed on Monday were J. McArthur Noah, as Vice Chairperson for Administration, and Justine H. Fayombo, as Financial Secretary.
However, it remains unclear from the September 7 release by County Information Officer Danny D. Moses whether Superintendent Ojay Godfavor Morris will make additional appointments.
Questions remain regarding the possible appointment of a steering committee chairperson, coaches, technical staff for the three sporting disciplines—football, kickball, and basketball—as well as a media team and other positions needed to prepare the county for the upcoming County Sports Meet.
About the Newly Appointed Chairman
Christian Weah Sr. is a business entrepreneur and serves as Chief Executive Officer of Cabina Hotel, located in District #1, Margibi County.
He is also a sports administrator and serves as CEO of the female soccer club Stages Queen. In addition, Weah is an Executive Committee Member of the Liberia Football Association, a position to which he was elected several months ago.
At the LFA Elective Congress, Weah defeated Cllr. K. Jlayteh Sayor Sr. after both candidates received 25 votes during the first round of voting. Weah subsequently secured 26 votes in the deciding round.
EC Weah currently serves as Chairperson of the LFA Ticketing Committee, a position to which he was appointed by LFA President Mustafa Raja during the first Executive Committee meeting held at the LFA headquarters in Sinkor.
Weah becomes the first LFA Executive Committee Member to serve as Chairperson of the Margibi Sports Association. He is also the second LFA Executive Committee Member to lead a county’s sporting administration for the National County Sports Meet.
The first was EC Elvis Sirleaf, who set the record by serving as Chairperson of the Bomi County Sports Steering Committee.
About the Newly Appointed Vice Chairperson
- McArthur Noah, the newly appointed Vice Chairperson for Administration, is the Chief Executive Officer of Wein Town United Football Club, a Margibi County-based Second Division football club.
His appointment brings an experienced football administrator into the leadership structure of the Margibi Sports Association as the county prepares for the 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.
About the Newly Appointed Financial Secretary
Justine H. Fayombo, the newly appointed Financial Secretary, has a limited history as a sports administrator but has supported several clubs in Margibi County and contributed to the Margibi Sports Association during previous County Meet competitions.
Beyond sports, Fayombo is a seasoned accountant and currently serves as Business Manager at the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute (KRTTI) in Kakata, Margibi County.
Margibi’s County Meet Campaign
Margibi County has been drawn into Group D alongside host Grand Kru County and Bomi County.
The county enters the upcoming competition as the defending champion in the kickball category of the National County Sports Meet. Margibi captured the kickball championship after defeating Grand Cape Mount County in the grand finale at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD) in Paynesville.
With the appointment of its new leadership, attention will now turn to how quickly the Margibi Sports Association can organize its technical team, coaches, players, and support staff ahead of the November 2026 kickoff.
