Four days after Liberian President George Manneh Weah dedicated the “14th Gorbachop Market” in Monrovia’s Paynesville suburb, he has on Tuesday broken grounds for the Duala Market with a saying that “politics will not develop Liberia.”
The Liberian leader, who has made the popular Liberian music, ‘Zombie-‘ his signature dance tune at official programs, did a few strokes to amuse the crowd at the event on October 12, 2020. Dressed in all-white and wearing his facemask, he took to the podium promising never to fail the people of Liberia.
“If politics will be the order of the day, Liberia will never be developed” He told the gathering that he as the President of Liberia, his dream is leave a good legacy for others to follow when it comes to developing the country,” the Liberian leader said.
President Weah in his short remarks at the ground breaking ceremony recognized the poor condition the Duala market has operated in since he was a kid growing up in that community; a condition he said has even multiplied to the extent that the market has grown big and is partly harmful for the people who sell on the sidewalks.
He said all is set for the US$3.8 million market project construction due to kick-off on Wednesday, October 13, 2020.
“By tomorrow, you will see materials for the market” President Weah told the joyous marketers.
He went on to say: “I heard the President of the Liberia Marketing Association thanking me, why thank me? Thank God. All the processes would not been possible without the help of partners.”
He praised the government and people of Japan for the initiative for helping the government and people of Liberia.
President Weah told the marketers that he is a man who keeps promises and breaking grounds for the Duala market is a promise he will keep and in the timeframe of 11 months, the market project will be completed.
President Weah, whose mother too was a marketer, said he had promised to construct markets during the 2017 presidential election, which he is keeping.
The grounds breaking ceremony was marked by cultural exhibition that saw display of different Liberian cultural dances.
It was attended by marketers from the Duala market, government officials who praised the Weah led government for the initiative.
