House Speaker Bhofal Chambers and Senate President Pro Tempore left the Capitol Building shortly after a large crowd of “Save the State” protesters entered the ground of the Capitol Building earlier today, Friday June 7, 2019.
The “Save the State” protesters, who were given the corridor between the Executive Mansion (now under renovation) and the seat of the Liberian Legislature, forced their way there as they await the presentation of their petition to the George Weah government slated for 3:00pm GMT.
Few minutes after the action of the petitioners, both the speaker of the HOR and senate Pro Tempore left the Capitol building.
Among other things, the protesters are demanding the dismissals of Finance Minister Samueal Tweah and Central Bank of Liberia Governor Nathaniel Patray, arrest of the current economic meltdown and the setting up of a war crimes court.
Speaking to Journalists earlier, two of the spokesmen of the protest, vocal talk show host, Henry Cost and Dairus Dillon said they will present their petition to the Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, who the CDC government has designated to receive it.
When they were quizzed why were they at the capitol building as early as 8 am, the two protest organizers said they as leaders of the ground need to set the right examples for their followers.
Meanwhile, the activities on Capitol Hill have so far been peaceful.
Details are coming up.
