MONROVIA, Liberia– The Liberia Media for Democratic Initiatives (LMDI), which runs series of national public education and visibility engagement forums across Liberia for the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) currency reform, has said hundreds of people with disabilities have come face-to -ace with J. Aloysius Tarlue, Governor of the CBL and his team of public education and communication experts.
According to a press release from the LNDI, the exercise took place on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Christian Association of the Blind (CAB).
Under the LMDI Liberia’s leading media and community outreach bended People To People public education platform, THE DIALOGUE, the CBL governor and team will for the first time in the ongoing currency reform drive, seek to educate people with disabilities especially the blind, their specific features on the new family of bank notes and coins being printed, minted, introduced and infused into the Liberian economy and market.

The forum with people with disabilities will be the 19th public engagement forum on the latest and new arrival of the remaining series of banknotes. The other 18 forums have been conducted in five counties, Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Bomi and Cape at four locations in each of the counties.
The forum will sit at the headquarters of the Christian Association of the Blind (CAB) of veteran disability rights activist, Beyan Kota at the R2 Vai Town community along the Monrovia to Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway.
At all the public engagement forums conducted so far, the people have commended the Central Bank for the arrival of the lower denominations of the new family of banknotes,but are keen on their urgent need for the infusion of the lowest denominations of ten and five dollars.
The current LMDI led series of public education and visibility engagement forums are a sequel to the first batch in 2021 and early 2022 funded then by the USAID LEPDA, a partner of the Central Bank of Liberia to support the CBL Communication strategy of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness around the country about the introduction of the new family of banknotes, with emphasis on the infusion of the L$100 banknote into the economy as the overriding objective.
Tomorrow’s DIALOGUE forum on the general CBL currency reform and the infusion of the new family of banknotes will see the governor and team directly interact with the people with disabilities, mainly the blind on the process and the specific features for blind people.
