Correction Officer Under Probe At Kakata Central Prison For Allegedly Receiving Bribe

KAKATA, Liberia- A correction officer at the Kakata Central prison, whose name is yet to be identified, is currently undergoing investigation for allegedly receiving bride from the lead defendant in the German national murder trial, James Kollie.

In a formal complaint to Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, assigned Circuit Court Judge at the 13th Judicial Circuit court in Kakata, Margibi County at the weekend, the prison superintendent, Nelson Woah said: “I write to informed inform you about the behavior of Atty. Peter G. King and his client, James Kollie who are presently going through trial.”

Kollie and his fellow two co-defendants, Emmanuel Kollie alias Porleh and Joseph Cole, alias Joe Cole said he was the one who shot the German national, Juergen Schedema during their armed robbery activities at the big Joe town logging compound in the Port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The late Juergen Schedema, Manager of the International Consultant Company (ICC), was discovered dead early Wednesday morning, January 22, 2020 at the back of the log yard, which is located in Big Joe Town – more than a mile away from the port city of Buchanan, some 88 miles from Liberia’s capital, Monrovia.

Claim money was sent to Correction Officer

Defendant James Kollie allegedly sent the money to the correction officer via mobile money, after making the threaten remark of breaking jail.

Atty. Peter G. King and Afred Holmes are private lawyers for defendants Emmanuel Kollie alias porleh, James Kollie, alias Depree and Joseph Cole.

The complaint further added that on the 15th of December 2021, at 5pm, Atty. King with the public defender Alfred Holmes and court officer, Moses Garnett visited the prison for the sole purpose of visiting their clients.

They were given the opportunity to carry out visitation, while, in the process, Atty. King gave inmate James Kollie alias depree a smart phone without my knowledge Superintendent Woah added.

According to his complaint, copy which is in the possession of www.newspublictrust.com, said that the two lawyers left the inmate along with the phone in the visiting hall and went out. When he went to inquire as to why Atty. King gave phone to the inmate, the lawyers said, the phone was given to him to check on the police website for reason best known to them and later apologized for the act carry out.

Further to his to the prison superintendent complaint, which says on December 16,2021, after inmate James Kollie, alias Depree returned from court, a phone and a power bank were discovered in the cell that inmate James Kollie is being kept.

During the preliminary investigation, inmate James Kollie acknowledged having  the power bank, but he denied knowledge of the phone.

The prison superintendent added that when he inquired from defendant James Kollie alias depree about the phone and power bank, he assaulted him and spite on him a situation which brought the prison under serious tension and threats from defendant James Kollie, alias Depree.

Defendant James Kollie then, in an open manner, said that he will make sure that there will be serious jail break before his trial ends.

Kollie, alias Depree has a record of breaking jail on numerous occasions when he is being incarcerated at prisons for his involvement of armed robbery and attempted murder.

Defendants Emmanuel Kollie, Joseph Cole and James Kollie are said to have a history of breaking jail in Bong County.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Justice Minister for Litigation, Cllr. Wesseh A. Wesseh has instructed correction officers to always chain James Kollie both on his foot and cuff his hands to prevent possible escape.
