BUCHANAN, Liberia– It is now known that two more persons have died from the weekend motor accident on the Buchanan-Monrovia highway, with several others seriously injured.
The accident involved a commercial taxi and white Toyota pickup in the southern Grand Bassa County.
It late Friday afternoon, November 5, 2021 in district two, Fortsville, St. John City along the Monrovia to Buchanan highway route claimed the lives of two females and three males.
Drivers of both speeding vehicles reportedly lost control of the steering and collided near the St. John River Bridge.
According to reports, the commercial car was traveling from Buchanan to Monrovia, while the white Toyota pickup heavily loaded with goods was moving towards Buchanan from Monrovia.
Crowd that gathered on the scene of the accident
Health workers in Buchanan confirmed the death of three individuals on the accident scene while additional two were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Health authority in Buchanan indicated that those involved in the car accident got broken several times and they sustained deep cuts on their heads, thus causing them to bleed to death.
The survivors from the two vehicles that ran into each other are said to be in critical condition and presently undergoing medical treatment at the Buchanan Referral Hospital.
Police report revealed that the taxi was transporting about six persons to Monrovia, but the exact number of passengers onboard the white Toyota pick-up remains unknown up to press time.
Identities of the victims
Meanwhile, those who reportedly lost their lives include John Johnson, Roosevelt Benson, Churchema Blapho Blamoh, a lady only identified as Faith and another name yet to be discovered.
However, the Grand Bassa County Suprerintendent, Janjay Baikpeh has expressed regret over the tragic deaths of the residents of his county and called on everyone to pray for the speedy recovery of those that are in critical conditions at the Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan.
On behalf of the County, Superintendent Baikpeh extended a condolence message to the families of those that died in the tragic accident.
He used the medium to caution drivers to desist from unnecessary running and follow the traffic laws of Liberia to save lives.
Police investigation underway
Police have launched an investigation to establish the cause of the fatal accident.
Residents of Buchanan have also expressed sadness over the deaths of the five people and called on the police through its traffic division to put in place measures that will reduce the high number of motor accidents in the County.
