Liberia’s Minister of National Defense, Retired Major General Daniel Ziankahn has come down hard on some state actors and non-state actors, who he said have engaged in making inflammatory comments that tend to heighten tensions in the country.
In an interview with state radio, ELBC over the weekend, Minister Ziahkahn said the situation involving Representative Yekeh Kolubah will be addressed professionally and lawfully.
The Defense Minister, who is acting Chairman of Joint Security of Liberia, said state actors and non-state actors should stop making inciting comments that will inflame the already volatile situation.
He made specific reference to recent statement by ex-rebel generals, threatening the arrest of Montserrado County District 10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah.
The Liberian Defense Minister criticized the action of the ‘ex-generals’ who recently gave Rep. Kolubah 72 hours to report to the Justice Ministry and said it was wrong for non-state actors to act on behalf of government.
The Defense Minister said he believes Representative Kolubah will eventually submit to the invitation of the Ministry of Justice.
He told the state radio that any situation, as with the current state of affairs, the army is under moral and professional obligation to protect the President and peace of the country.
The Defense Minister said the National Security is not taking the situation lightly and will be duly handled by the Justice Ministry.
