Despite sporadic donations by individuals, governmental and charity organizations in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, yet many others continues to struggle for food and other basic necessities daily for their survival.
One group of disabled are those at the Mission of Hope for the Disabled based in the Rehab Community of Jacob Town in the Paynesville suburb of Monrovia.
The Mission of Hope for the Disabled has over seventy five members and family heads, including children.
This institution, formally called Our Lady of Fatima Rehab Center, was founded in 1998 by an American lady the late sister Mary who trained and sponsored over hundred disabled people at the center.
The Mission, according to its officials, is being assisted by a friend based in the United States of America who usually identifies with them as a means of survival through her charity organization.
During the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown and even before the State of Emergency, the government is yet to identify with them in this difficult health crisis.
Speaking in an interview with www.newspublictrust.com in Paynesville City recently, Mission of Hope for the Disabled Secretary General, Konah Kermie called on humanitarians, local and International partners to help them in the area of education, health and their agriculture project.
Mr. Kermie explained that since the Weah administration over two years ago, the Mission of Hope for the Disable is yet to receive support for government after many calls.
He noted that the bad road condition in the area is making their plight more serious, as it could be preventing others from reaching out to them.
‘’We want for people to come and share fun, play with us and our kids and have some program together, we will be happy if we see these things happening,” Mr. Krmie said
According to him, they have been looked at by government and some in this society as people who are useless, worthless and good for nothing, something he said discourages them about their condition and existence.
‘’we want to erase that mentality that we can make it and we are productive citizens once the opportunity is given us, we can do better and we can do much,’’ he explained.
Mission of Hope for the Disabled operates a High school, Clinic and the agriculture project for its members in the Jacob town area of Paynesville City.
The school is being operated from the ABC to 12th grade level with majority of its teachers and students from the Organization.
‘’Currently we have some many of our kids who have graduated from high school but there is no support to enter college or University. We are therefore calling on government and other partners to help our kids advance their education at the state run university,’’ the head of the disabled rehab center appealed.
‘’Right now we want college opportunity for our kids that are graduating from high school,’’ he added.
