The feud and leadership rift in the opposition Liberty Party (LP) has taken another turn, with the Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence faction filing a law suit against the NEC-recognized Chairman of the Party, Musa Bility, accusing him of tampering with the LP’s 2021 constitution.
A writ of arrest was on Thursday, February 3, 2022 issued on Chairman Bility and his Secretary General, Martin S. Kollah by the Monrovia City Court for alleged crime of forgery,, “criminal conspiracy and criminal facilitation”.
But in December last year, the National Elections Commission (NEC) reaffirmed its position on the status of the LP’s 2021 constitution and recognized Bility as the legitimate Chairman of the party.
The letter added said: “The Commission notes that since the above-referenced statement to the LP, the Commission has not received any final, non-appealable decision regarding the validity of the LP’s 2021 constitution; neither has the Commission been served with an amendment done by the Party. Hence, the Commission herein informs you that the Liberty Party’s 2021 notarized Constitution remains proper with the Commission until successfully challenged or amended as stated in our 23 August 2021 communication to you.”
Outside of NEC’s regulations, the embattled Liberty Party Political Leader Karnga-Lawrence recently appointed Senator Steve Zargo as the party’s new Chairman. Zargo was the chairman prior to the 2021 Ganta convention of the party.
