In a heart-warming gesture to celebrate her birthday, a young Liberian female Journalist, Garmah Never Lomo has brought some relief to students of the Garr Garblain Public School in Electoral District #2, Nimba County, with the donation of nearly a dozen benches, after hearing reports that many of them sit on the floor in the classrooms.

Journalists Lomo, who a top beat Reporter covering the courts and the security sector, made the donation of the urgently needed benches to this struggling public school on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Her donation of nine benches to the school’s administration is a significant gesture in helping to address a pressing issue that came to her attention through a report by her fellow Journalist, Lincoln P. Nyakpoar of a community radio station in the northeastern Liberian county of Nimba.

Months prior to the latest donation, Journalist Nyakpoar had highlighted the unfortunate situation faced by students at Garr Garblain Public School, where many students were forced to sit on mats in the classroom during lessons.

The revelation prompted Ms. Lomo, who reports for www.newspublictrust.com and writes for other leading Liberian newspapers, to take action.

She said that she felt it was unacceptable for children to endure such conditions in their pursuit of education.

Speaking on Journalist Lomo’s behalf during the donation ceremony, Reporter Nyakpoar emphasized the importance of providing a conducive learning environment for all students in Liberia.

He stated: “It is the responsibility of the national government, through the Ministry of Education, to ensure that all students have access to adequate learning facilities, regardless of their location.”

The Garr Garblain Public School authorities expressed profound gratitude to Journalist Garmah Lomo for her timely support, asking Nyakpoar to relay their appreciation to the enterprising female Journalist. They noted that the donation would significantly enhance the learning experience for the students.

Garr Garblain Public School Principal falls into trouble for being open to local Journalists

Meanwhile, the situation at this public school has been marred by controversy, following the media’s exposure of the students’ struggles,

Principal Alfred S. Keah was reportedly suspended by Mr. Saye Kehzie, the Education Officer for Bain-Garr District #2, along with Nimba County Education Officer Francis G. Leagay IV. The suspension stemmed from Keah’s openess in discussing the plight of the school with Journalists.

Journalist Lomo’s donation not only alleviates some of the immediate sdifficulties faced by the students regarding seating, but it also highlights the ongoing challenges within Liberia’s educational system, especially in rural areas.

Some locals see her commitment to humanitarian efforts as an inspiring example for others to follow in a country, Liberia where the bulk of allotment in the national budget is spent on purchasing expensive luxury vehicle for government officials and their huge salaries and allowances.
