Fumigation Of Markets, Other Areas Underway In Monrovia, As COVID-19 Cases Rise

-LISWA leads exercise

The Liberia Solid Waste Management Association (LISWA), has launched a fumigation process targeting mainly market buildings in the Monrovia area, as the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases has raisen to nearly sixty and 6 deaths so far.

The disinfection or decontamination exercise, according to LISWA President George Howe, is intended to create a safe environment within market buildings as Liberia battles the deadly coronavirus disease.

Speaking at the launch of the exercise at the Clar Weah Market in Paynesville, Mr. Howe said the campaign is his organization’s way of supporting government’s fight against COVID-19.

He said they will ensure that all markets in the country are fumigated leading to the elimination of diseases within market vicinities.

Mr. Howe urged marketers to continue to observe the health protocols put in place by health authorities and commended members of LISWA for allocating funding for the fumigation exercise.

For his part, the president of the Liberian Business Association, James Strother, described LISWA’s initiatives as a sign of unity in the fight against the coronavirus disease.

He said LIBA will shortly begin distributing providing noise masks to markets to protect marketers, while at the same time admonishing them to assist the government halt the spread of the virus.

The LIBA president pledged his organization’s support to LISWA in its bid to disinfect markets in Monrovia and its environs.

Also speaking at the launch of the exercise was Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) President Alice Yeebahn, who said LISWA’s endeavors are worth emulating because they aim to engender a healthy market environment.

She assured that the LISWA of the support of the LMA to their undertakings.

“I am urging other Liberians to emulate the good example of LISWA” Yeebahn added.

The Clar Weah, Duport Road and Old Road Markets were disinfected by the Liberia Solid Waste Management Association, at which time he praised fellow members for their hard work and encouraged them to be part of the process of disinfecting markets in the coming weeks.
