Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Education has completed a two-day strategy session on reforms aimed at improving education quality and access.
Participants in the session included Minister of Education Prof. Ansu D. Sonii Sr., Deputy and Assistant Ministers, 98 District Education Officers (DEOs), and 15 County Education Officers (CEOs), according to an Education Ministry press release.
The discussion covered the following areas: Reducing teacher absenteeism; Preventing academic malpractices; Strengthening protocols for the transfer of CEOs, DEOs, and teachers; Building cross-sectoral collaboration; Improving girls’ access to education; Improving school infrastructure and selecting sites for school construction; Improving access to quality education in rural areas through rural assignment intervention; Addressing teachers’ and students’ dress codes; Strengthening community engagement; and Ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
Speaking about the strategy session, Minister Sonii noted: “CEOs and DEOs are the foot soldiers of the education system, and they play a crucial role in ensuring access to quality education for all students across the country. We are relying on them for robust monitoring and evaluation as well as supervision of every school in their assigned area.”
The Liberian Education Minister said that the issues discussed during the session will be addressed in the strategic plan to be released at the upcoming Education Summit on May 21, 2018 in Kakata, Margibi County.
He invited all 98 DEOs and 15 CEOs to participate in the summit and to play an active role in the transformation of the education system.
