And Neglect Of Marginalized Communities

BOSTON, MA — Members of The Free Liberia Movement and Universal Human Rights International, led by Rev. Torli H. Krua, have filed a historic lawsuit against the Biden Administration, seeking urgent injunctive relief to end inhumanity, cruelty, systemic racism in U.S. immigration and foreign policy, a press statement said here on Thursday, January 16, 2025..
Rev. Krua criticized the Administration for neglecting Native American reservations, excluding Liberians from the protections of the Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness (LRIF) Act, and maintaining discriminatory visa waiver policies that favor predominantly European nations while excluding all African countries. “From the perspectives of Liberians who are “entitled to all privileges enjoyed by citizens of the United States but denied”, according to the 1824 Constitution of Liberia approved in Washington City, The Biden Administration’s 2025 policies on Ukraine compared to their policies on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and West Point, Monrovia, Liberia can be summed up in four words-’unfit for human habitation’ and are identical to unmitigated codified racism of the 1st Nationality Act of March 4, 1790.”
“Slavery and racial discrimination in America persist, and systemic racism is entrenched in our government’s policies,” said Rev. Krua. “Hundreds of Billions of dollars are spent overseas on Ukraine while Indian reservations languish in poverty and Liberian refugees in America since the Obama era face exclusion from basic protections. Not a single African nation is allowed in the U.S. visa waiver program. Most people don’t know that Nelson Mandela was kept on America’s terrorist list for 18 years after South Africans reconciled and elected the man as president! The hypocrisy is staggering.”
KEY ISSUES HIGHLIGHTED IN THE LAWSUIT
- Neglect of Native American Reservations:
Despite severe economic and social challenges on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the Biden Administration has failed to prioritize resources or address longstanding inequities. No US President has ever visited Native American nations to apologize in person for ongoing harm, injures, atrocities, genocide, land theft and broken treaties. If a president isn’t man enough to confess, repent, reconcile, and pay reparations, he’s a coward even if he drops 2,000 bombs. This action can’t go on forever. It’s time for injunctive relief! - Exclusion of Liberian Refugees:
Liberians who have lived in the U.S. for decades remain excluded from LRIF benefits, despite the law’s intent to rectify historical injustices. Meanwhile, other refugee groups, like Ukrainians, receive swift protections and resources. It’s time for injunctive relief! - Discriminatory Visa Waiver Policies:
The U.S. extends visa waivers to 42 predominantly European nations, while not a single African country is included. This reinforces systemic racial disparities in global mobility. This action can’t go on forever. All the colonial powers stole for centuries and now they are rich with our money. It’s time for injunctive relief!
A CALL FOR JUSTICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Rev. Krua condemned President Biden’s recent farewell address for ignoring the plight of Native Americans, African Americans, Liberian refugees, and other marginalized groups. “The speech was emblematic of the Administration’s broader disregard for people of color and historically oppressed communities. Real justice demands acknowledging and addressing these failures,” he said.
The lawsuit seeks immediate relief to:
- Halt the exclusion of Liberian refugees under the LRIF Act.
- All colonial powers must apologize, pay reparations and include former colonies in their visa waiver programs. All Liberians, not just the politicians, must gain access to all privileges enjoyed by US citizens.
- Commit federal resources to addressing the crises on Indian reservations.
“This is not just a lawsuit; it’s a demand for America to confront its ongoing legacy of racism and fulfill its promise of liberty and justice for all,” Rev. Krua stated.
