Illegal abortion goes wrong: 16-yr-old girl dead In Lofa, Liberia

-Registered Nurse, age 41 arrested for alleged Criminal Abortion

Voinjama, Liberia- A 41-year-old Registered Nurse in the northwestern Lofa County has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement in a criminal abortion resulting to the death of a girl, age 16.

The male Nurse identified as Thompson A. Kollie was arrested by police on Sunday June 9, 2019 in voinjama after his alleged involvement into the administering of medication to a 16 years old girl identified as Mateneh Sheriff.

His Identity card from the Liberian Board of Nursing and Midwifery has license number 12691RRSN/12/8/17.

According to police preliminary investigation, the victim was discovered laying unconscious in the home of the alleged perpetrator within in the new life community in Voinjama city.

Suspect Thompson told police investigators that the victim visited his house on Saturday June 8 and pleaded with him to help save her life.

“I asked as to what was happening to her and she told me that she had infection but I instructed her to bring me urine for testing and her later confess to me that she had not seen her period for two months and that the person who impregnated also denial the pregnancy and was taken to Guinea by his mother,” suspect Kollie indicated.

Speaking further, suspect Kollie alleged that the victim told him that she had already taken in country hubs which she believed resulted to the stomach pain.

“I first refused to attend to her but due to her health condition and her appeal, I decided to aid her by administering ringer lacte or (RL),” the Registered Nurse explained.

Ringer Lacte or RL for short is a medication normally used by doctors to control once pressure and also for flurry replacement in the body.

According to him after administering the medication with the intention of cleaning up the system, he instructed her to go home and purchase some blood tonic and folic acid to help replaced the blood.

“I left her inside to rest with the intension that she and her friend identify as Elizabeth Faiya would have gone home later but only to be informed that she had died right in my house and so all I am asking for is forgiveness because she died in my house and I can’t denial it,” he pleaded.

The remains of the victim was on also on Monday June 10, turned over to the family for burial while they are calling for the alleged perpetrator to be sent to court for trial.
