In Bong: Over 874 Rural Women & Adolescent Girls Get Donations

GBARNGA, Liberia- A non-for-profit organization, “Impact Girls Liberia” in collaboration with Forum SYD-Liberia have concluded the distributions Re-usable sanitary pads, Clorox, and powder soap as well as other anti-coronavirus materials to little over 874 women and adolescent girls in Liberia’s central Bong County.

Impact Girls Liberia is a prominent organization promoting education, gender equality and mentorship for girls in Liberia. This is a local NGO that works directly with girls and rural women.

Presenting the materials on behalf of the organization, its Executive Director, Tiangeh Taylor said the initiative is the organization owned way of identifying with young girls and women in this difficult period as well as to combat the deadly Coronavirus.

“Menstrual health is crucial to the overall well-being of women and girls especially in times like this when the coronavirus pandemic is hitting up,” Ms. Taylor said.

She called for strict measures to be taken at this time when rural women and Girls can no longer move around to sell or do part-time jobs, in order to earn financial benefits to take care of themselves.

“We clearly understand how challenging and overwhelming it is for adolescent girls and women to purchase sanitary pads, and take care of their menstrual health and hygiene,” Ms. Taylor said.

The Impact Girls Liberia boss further stressed the need for a support to be given rural women and Girls are in need, adding, “People living with disability, the orphans and lepers at the Suakoko Leprosy Rehabilitation Center in the county.

She also used the occasion to extend Commendation to the women and Girls for being part of the exercise, especially Forum SYD-Liberia for the supports.

“I want to use this medium to extend my profounds gratitude to Mr.. Dennis Garsinii and his wife who supported our initiative by donating to us all the sanitary pads we used through their organization Elite,” she said.

Ms. Taylor is meanwhile appealing for goodwill of individuals, humanitarian organizations, national government and even friends to give financial support to the organization, so as to purchase additional sanitary pads, Clorox, Dettol, washing soap, hand washing buckets, food amongst others.

“I want to again caution all of you that let keep washing our hands, avoiding large gathering amongst other as we all fight COVID-19 in our county and Country at large,” Ms. Taylor adds.

Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the organization’s efforts and promised to use the materials donated for their intended purpose.
