In China, Liberian students induct new leadership

The Beijing Union of Liberian Students (BULS) has put in place a new leadership to govern the affairs of compatriots studying in the Chinese Capital during the next academic year.

It followed a very colorful and well-attended program at the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communications, a University that hosts more than twenty Liberian students.

Speaking at the program the Counselor at the Liberian Embassy near Beijing Mulbah Kawoi, urged the new student leaders to be selfless and always remain engaged the Embassy.

Mr. Kawoi was speaking on behalf of Liberian Ambassador to China H. E. Dudley Mickinley Thomas.

He wants the students to remain law abiding in China and always share with the student leadership any problems that hinder their academic growth as well as their general wellbeing.

The Embassy official called on the students and Liberian community to seek dialogue always in seeking redress to whatever issues they are faced with.

Mr. Kawoi was joined at the program by other senior officials from the Liberian Embassy in Beijing including Musu Massaquoi, 1st Secretary and Consul, Tracy Grisby, 2nd Secretary and Vice Consul and Jon Bricks, Cultural Attache.

This month brings to an end the academic year in China and several Liberian students are graduating with degrees in various fields of study.

Their efforts were also recognized at the BULS induction and honoring program with Kawoi urging them to be ready to face the development challenges Liberia.

“Even though Liberia is not advanced as China, but you can use your Chinese experience to help make things better back home” added Mulbah Kawoi.

His comments were echoed by John Smith Jr, a PHD Candidate at the prestigious Perking University awaiting graduation on June 29, 2019.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates of 2019, Smith said it is important for the graduates to ensure that knowledge acquired over the years is reflected in their image when they returned to Liberia.

Those inducted are Captain Ballah Gabriel Pewee, Coordinator, Foday G. Faisu, Secretary General, Rozetta S. Pajibo, Financial Secretary, Ann K. Mulbah, Treasurer and Richel V. Dougbe, Chaplain. Madam Musu Massaquoi of the Liberian Embassy is serving the student leadership as Senior Advisor.

Addressing the gathering after his induction Captain Gabriel Pewee thanked the student body for the opportunity to serve and vowed to bring new dynamism to the organization.

Mr. Pewee stressed the importance of due payment and wants members of BULS to show more commitment to the organization.

He lauded the outgoing leadership of Eric Nunoo for the level of work done over the past year, describing his predecessor as a true friend and brother.

Mr. Pewee promised to build on the gains made by the out-going leadership and push for improvements that will better serve the interest of Liberian students in Beijing China.
