BUCHANANA, Liberia-The Management of the Liberian Agricultural Company (LAC) and workers’ union have assured their full support to the family of the late Emmanuel Joe, who died in a terrible industrial accident at the job site during routine maintenance at the rubber factory in the plantation.
The concession area is located in Compound #3, Grand Bassa County, between the St John and Cestos River.. The company’s site is about 40km from the city of Buchanan.
According to a press release issued recently, the Management of LAC described as their position statement about the tragic death of Emmanuel Joe, who was crushed by the rubber processing machine, promisng the bereaved that the company will provide a befitting burial and give them all his benefits.
In the communication, the management also promised to work with members of the bereaved family and the leadership of the workers’ union regarding the funeral and other arrangements pertaining to his burial.
The release further stated that the management has warned people to desist from posting the deceased photo on the social media because the family of the deceased doesn’t deserve such a polemic on social media but rather the necessary support to get through the times ahead.
LAC said that all relevant authorities including the Liberia National Police, members of the Crime Service Division and the forensic team of the Ministry of Justice and other agencies of the national government are working hard to ensure that the unfortunate accident is properly investigated.
On Saturday August 21, there was an industrial accident at the Rubber Factory of the Liberian Agricultural Company (LAC). The unfortunate accident resulted into the death of one of the workers in the rubber factory at the Company’s plantation.
Despite the intervention of LAC management, a Former Independent Senatorial candidate of Grand Bassa County Madam Magdalene Harris has called on the government of Liberia to conduct a forensic investigation into what she described as painful death of Emmanuel Joe of the Liberian Agricultural Company.
She said the 44-year-old Liberian died on job from an accident which led him to be grinded by the rubber processing machine while on duty as a mechanic on the plantation in electoral district four, Grand Bassa County.
Madam Harris said that the government of Liberia should dispatch experience investigators to properly investigate the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of Emmanuel Joe, a father of five children.
However, she urged the public to remain calm and peaceful as they look up to the government and LAC Management to conduct a full scale investigation in connection to the death of Emmanuel Joe.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased is deposited at the Abraham Roberts Funeral Home in Buchanan for preservation while investigation continues on the tragic accident that led to his death.
