LDEA Grand Kru County Destroys Over US$43,000 Confiscated Illicit Drugs

GRANK KRU, Liberia—The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) here destroyed US$43,.000.00 worth of illicit drugs recently confiscated throughout the County.

In Liberian currency, the value of the drugs burnt is Eight Million, Six Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand Liberia Dollars, and the destruction of the narcotic substances coincided with the observance of the International Drugs Day.

According to Michael Gipply, County Commander of Grand Kru County, during the year under review his men were able to arrest 27 drugs suspects, of which twenty are males and seven are females among the 27 suspects, five are foreign Nationals, while 22 are all Liberians.

He added that the County Drugs Enforcement Agency was successful in    confiscating marijuana 164kilograms, kush 309.4grams, heroin 291.3grams, cocaine 127.3 grams and precursor amounting to 206kilograms from drugs dealers and users, despite of the limited resources to fight against narcotics substances.

Speaking on Thursday June 26,2025, Commander Gipply called for sustain and more collaborative efforts from community dwellers and local stakeholders to intensify awareness Campaigns- on drugs treatments and preventions among the youths of Grand Kru County.

He added that the fight against narcotics substances should not be left with the joint taskforce.

He asserted that these illegal substances Confiscated reflects the detachment honest efforts, as they continue to encounter mounting challenge in the fight against drugs abuse across the county.

Micheal Gipply, former Spokeperson of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency reminded the local stakeholders that it is not only important to arrest these individuals, as it is much more important to ensure their respective prosecutions as they remain in pre- trial detentions.

The Grand Kru LDEA boss emphasized that the only way the security can strives in strengthening the fight against the harmful substances is to open corridors to enhance the rule of laws and promote accountability in tackling the menace in society.

“Madam Superintendent in all your lagency projects, we appealed to you to rally around other stakeholders to ensure the construction of a prison facility in Grand Kru County, Gipply declared.

The Former LDEA Communications Officer and now County Commander maintained that the current absence of a correction compound may not deter prosecutions, but it’s also undermines accountability under the rule of law.

At the same time, the LDEA Grand Kru County Commander has expressed gratitude to officers of the detachment and the local stakeholders for their continues supports over the period, cautioning them that enhance the rule of law is everybody business.

This year’s Works Drugs Day celebration is held under the theme,

Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment and Recovery for all” and the local theme is the Evidence is clear.

For her part, the Superintendent of Grand Kru County Antoinette Worlee Nimely extolled the tireless efforts of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency in drugs abuse and trafficking.

The County Superintendent lamented that it is unfortunate to see young people being a addicted to drugs that is seriously disgusting and undermining their potentials and has become embarrassment to th county and community.

Madam Nimely said that as part of ongoing initiatives, her office is currently working with various women organizations to aid the DEA in promoting awareness Campaigns-throughout the County, aimed at reducing the consumption rate amongst the youths.

She indicated that her office is closely collaborating with the central government for the construction of a prison Compound in Grand Kru and to enhance the strength of the county Joint Security apparatus and to ensure they are well equipped with adequate logistics in combating Crimes.

Meanwhile, the Grand Kru County Superintendent reechoed President Joseph Boakai’s commitment to empowering the security sector across the country, adding evidence is the recent donation of brand new pick-up to the County Police Detachment and the deployment of additional thirty personnel of the police.
