The Foreign Ministry in Monrovia has not said why Liberian President George Manneh Weah did not attend the inauguration of the United States 46th President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
The US is worst affected country in the world currently battling the COVID-19 pandemic, with over 400,000 deaths and more than two and a half million infections.
But in a press release, the Ministry says President Weah applauds U. S. President Joe, following his inauguration on January 20, 2020 in Washington.
The Liberian leader instead sent a congratulatory message to President Biden on his inauguration as the 46th President of the United States of America.
In his message to his U S counterpart, President Weah expressed confidence that the people of the United States, under the astute leadership of President Biden, will experience a deep sense of national cohesion and renewal.
He said while the world faces the debilitating effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19), the United States’ moral leadership in the rules-based multilateral system is always much desired and appreciated.
The Liberian President further indicated that, in mitigating the Coronavirus threat to humankind, his government looks forward to a further strengthened level of partnership between Liberia and the United States which is deeply rooted in the two countries’ shared values of freedom, liberty and democracy, the Foreign Ministry press release said.
President Weah further wished for U S President Joe Biden success and continued good health as he assumed the helm of power and leads the People of the United States to its right place among the comity of nations.
