Police in Monrovia have arrested a Defense Ministry employee for allegedly raping and impregnating his 16-year-old biological daughter.

Suspect Emmanuel Sayonkon is said to have taken the minor to the Goodwill Clinic on Randall Street, where an abortion of the pregnancy reportedly took place.

Since his arrest on Wednesday, he has been in police cell at the Liberia National Police headquarters on Capitol Hill undergoing further interrogation.

The suspect’s wife (the child’s step mother) said she discovered what was happening through the child’s poor health condition – something that prompted her to start questioning her during which she confessed that her father had impregnated her and taken her for abortion.

Sayonkon had reportedly threatened to kill his daughter if she disclosed any of what he had done to her.

Attempt by www.newspublictrust.com to reach the suspect via mobile phone was not possible, as the Police Spokesman, Moses Carter said because he is behind bars, he is not allowed to use mobile phone.

Mr. Carter said the Police is preparing his charge sheet to forward the Defense Ministry employee to court soon.

An aunt of the alleged rape survivor told News Public Trust she took the girl to the police on Tuesday February 9, 2021 during which statements were taken from her, while the suspect was arrested two days later today.

Police spokesman Moses Carter has confirmed to this news outlet that Sayonkon is currently in their custody.

According to family sources, the child moved into her father’s house to live with him six years ago, following the death of her mother.
