TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia- A 19- year-old man identified as Chris Karpeh has been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison to await court trial for allegedly murdering victim Shadrach George Weah in the Point Four area in the Bushord Island suburb.
Defendant Karpeh allegedly committing the act on August 4 but he was arrested on August 28, 2021.
According to police charge street, defendant Karpeh was in violation of Chapter 14, Subchapter “A” section 14.1 of the revised penal code of the Republic of Liberia. He was arrested and acquainted with his constitutional rights, investigated and subsequently charge with the crime of murder for criminally, intentionally and malice afford thought taking an axe from his room unknowingly to the victim and strike victim Shadrach George Weah on the head on August 4,2021.
The victim later succumbed to his injury while taken treatment at the Redemption hospital on August 12,2021.
Police investigation revealed that it was prior to the indident suspect Chris Karpeh and victim Karpeh and victim Weah had an argument and it degenerated into a fist and said matter fight and said matter was taken to the Zone one police station.
However, the case resolved and they all went home and was living together in one accord.
Investigation further revealed that after three weeks, on August 4th, 2021, while the decreased, Shadrach George Weah was sitting with his head bow down, suspect Chris Karpeh came and later went into his room, returning with an axe and struck Shadrach at the back of his head.
Investigation also revealed that after suspect Karpeh struck the victim on his head with the axe and stood over the victim holding the axe. But as soon a woman saw the gruesome scene and shouted, he dropped the axe and escaped to Liberia’s southeastern Grand Gedeh County where he was arrested.
The victim was later rushed to a local clinic. But investigation established that while the victim was at the local clinic, his condition worsen and he was transferred to the Redemption Hospital where he remained until August 12, 2021, when he succumbed to his injury.
Police investigation also established that after striking the victim with the axe on August 28,2021, defendant Karpeh later destroyed a sim-card bearing his number in his son’s mobile phone so that he could not be easily traced.
But after a serious manhunt, defendant Karpeh was later arrested in the Putu Jaodee Mountain area and brought to Liberia National Police central headquarters in Monrovia for questioning, where he admitted to the commission of the crime.
According to police Investigators, Karpeh stated that the motive of his violent attack was that the victim had earlier wounded him with a rake prior to the incident, claiming that he was retaliating.
