The Montserrado County Students Union (MONSU), which is said to be the largest auxiliary of the Liberia Nation Students’ Union (LINSU), has announced the launch of its Nationwide Academic Quizzing Tournament which is expected to host 170 schools across this county.
Montserrado County is where the Liberian capital, Monrovia is situated.
Speaking at the Headquarter of LINSU in Sinkor at the weekend (Friday, January 20, 2023), the Vice President of MONSU, Fatumata P. Dolleh said the upcoming academic Quizzing Tournament is being held in partnership with the national union, LINSU.
The Montserrado edition is expected to be launched on the 10th day of February 2023 at the Monrovia City Hall, when the rules and fixtures will be distributed to coaches and schools’ administrators.
Ms. Dolleh adding that the registration fees of all institutions within Montserrado County will be paid by LINSU’s President, Mohammed Gandhi Kamara.
“This tournament will bring together the fifteen counties across Liberia, and it’s intended for students to showcase their academic talents and connect with other students in the country, this will also bring unity among students in Montserrado County and the entire country at large, bringing together every Student under the theme: Embracing transformative learning: A Pedestal academic excellence,” said the MONSU VP Fatumata P. Dolleh.
She explained that MONSU is the largest constituent member Union of Liberia National Students’ Union- LINSU with thousands of schools in its area of supervision.
Ms. Dolleh is urging all schools’ administrators across Montserrado County to encourage the full participation of their students in the upcoming academic quizzing tournament.
The Vice President of MONSU also mentioned that the tournament is graced with a huge opportunity, which is highly sponsored by Liberia’s Quiz master and Africa’s 8 times best Quizzer winner, Cllr. Vet. Phil Tarpeh Dixon who has vowed to support the best-performing students in the tournament.
According to her, students will have the opportunity to form part of the National Quizzing Team that will represent Liberia at the International Quizzing tournament in the United States of America.
“We have selected 170 high schools across Montserrado and these schools will be placed into a particular zone, ranging from zone-1-to- zone-6, the team that will win all matches from these zones will be crowned as champion of Montserrado, and will be representing Montserrado county at the Nationwide academic quizzing tournament,” MONSU VP asserted.
She added: “Therefore, we are calling on every leader, Son, and Daughter and all Citizens of Montserrado County, to fully support this educative tournament both financially and physically appearance to ensure our county’s full participation in every game and to become victorious at the County’s meet challenge.”
MONSU has further assured schools and the Liberian public that the academic quizzing tournament will be very transparent, credible and free from violence.
Schools are also being called upon to prepare themselves for the start of “this spectacular academic Quizzing tournament”.
