Confrontation on the horizon

“We cannot afford the luxury of complacency, believing that a Russian attack might not occur until 2029 at the earliest. We are already under attack,” declared BND chief Martin Jäger, emphasizing the immediate threat and the importance of vigilance in military strategy.

Public hearing in the Bundestag

In Berlin, the heads of the three German intelligence agencies were invited to a public hearing in the Bundestag to present their assessment of current threat situations, according to the German newspaper FAZ.

Intelligence chiefs

The head of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Martin Jäger, the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD), Martina Rosenberg, and the head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Sinan Selen, met to be questioned by the Parliamentary Control Committee.

Extremely secret

As reported by Tagesschau, a German television news service, the committee conducts an annual review of the intelligence services, despite the heads of these services being sworn to secrecy. However, the hearing takes place under the highest security standards: the room is secure from wiretapping, and cell phones must be left outside.

Warning about Russia

One thing became clear in the three intelligence chiefs’ assessment of the threat situation: the warning about Russia.

Ready for confrontation

According to the FAZ, BND chief Martin Jäger said that Russia was ready for a confrontation with NATO.

Espionage, drones and sabotage

Russia is trying to undermine NATO, which is evident in sabotage, drones, and espionage, Jäger continued.
