New Criminal Gang Group, “Devil Baby” Emerges In Monrovia

Monrovia- The Liberia National Police has charged and sent to court another criminal gang group, named and styled, DEVIL BABY, weeks after another notorious KUBAH gang was disloded.

The gang members include Mohammed Sheriff alias Sheriff (leader) Ansu Sheriff, Menaro, Skeno and Robert to be identified.

The Devil Baby gang group members were charged with Criminal conspiracy, and Armed Robbery.

Details of the offense state: That on Wednesday February 10,2021, investigators from Anti-Robbery Unit of crime services department of the Liberia National Police arrested defendant Mohammed Sheriff, subsequently reminded him of his constitutional rights, thoroughly investigated him and charged him with the Criminal offenses  criminal conspiracy and Armed Robbery predicated upon a complaint filed against him by victim Elijah Johnson in which the victim sustained the loss of the below properties including cash.

Mr. Johnson told the Investigation that on Sunday, February 7, 2021, he left from Central Monrovia and the vehicle that took him at Old road dropped him at the Monrovia parking at Old road.

He further told police Investigator that while at the Old Road general market trying to go to his house, Mohammed Sheriff that he knows personally begged him for money.

Upon his return to give Mohammed Sheriff the money he requested, Mr. Johnson said, four other men to be identified d him with knives scissors and other deadly objects, forcibly taking away his above-mentioned properties including cash.

During investigation by the police criminal service division (CSD) of suspect Mohammed Sheriff, he denied the commission of the crime of armed robbery but admitted to forming and naming a criminal gang group, called Devil Baby.

The Investigation established that suspects Mohammed Sheriff, Ansu Sheriff, Menaro, Skeno and others to be identified are those who attacked victim Elijah Johnson at the Old road General market with cutlasses, knives and other deadly weapons and forcibly took the victim properties including cash.

Meanwhile, the Investigation reached this conclusion and charged defendant Mohammed Sheriff and others with the Criminal offenses of Criminal conspiracy and Armed Robbery. The acts are in violation of Chapters 10 and 15, section 10.4 and Chapter 15 subchapter C section 15.32 of the revised penal law of the Republic of Liberia.

In early January, Police in Monrovia said they dislodged the notorious KUBAH gang, arrested their leaders and sent them to court, for constantly terrorizing, intimidating and harassing peaceful residents in and out of Monrovia.

The gang has for a long time now been terrorizing residents of mainly the Paynesville suburb of Monrovia, using fire arms and machetes.

During a news conference at the LNP headquarters in Monrovia, Police spokesperson H. Moses Carter said his agency has made a successful crackdown on this “notorious organized gang group named and styled, KUBAH with the slogan Gbelleh-by-face, KUBAH by heart.”

Police arrested eight persons to include the gang’s, dangerous leader Varney Kiazolu alias “Azonto”.
