Piles of garbage greet one commuting main street corners and neigbouoods in the Liberian capital, Monrovia and its environ.
Now, this heap of rubbish has claimed the attention of an executive of a well-respected Liberian health NGO, the Christian Health Association of Liberia (CHAL), who has sent an Open Letter to President George Manneh Weah, who will next Tuesday, January 22, 2019 be one year in office.
January 14, 2019
Dear President Weah:
Today, I am constrained to write you because, there are great dangers ahead if no actions are taken! The City is filthy especially part of Red Light, Duala and Front Street.
There is a wise saying that “cleanliness is next to Godliness”. We need a clean environment so we can live healthy lives and leave future generations a healthy Earth. A clean environment is essential for human health and well-being. However, this is on the contrary in our city today. Taking no actions to get rid of the filth will create more health problems (running stomach, malaria, typhoid fever to name a few). These health problems will worsen the already poor health conditions we have in the country.
God bless you for your quick intervention.
Patricia S. Kamara
Executive Director
