However, Orange Liberia is the second largest mobile network operator in Liberia.

The company was founded in 2003 as Cellcom Telecommunications Ltd, backed by US-based private international investment firm YCF Group.

Cellcom was wholely acquired by French-multinational Orange Group (via its Orange Cote d’Ivoire business unit) but in early 2016, the rebranding to Orange Liberia started and was completed by May 2017.

The company has provided 2G GSM services over the 900 and 1800 MHz bands since September 2004, and 3G UMTS over B1 (2100 MHz) since June 2012. 3G data services were upgraded to DC-HSPA+ in May 2013.
