The Prison Fellowship Liberia with funding from the Prison Fellowship International has offered to pay the tuition, provide copy books and book bags for 525 prisoners’ children in nine of the 15 sub political divisions of the country.
Speaking at the back to school program, the Country Director of Prison Fellowship Liberia, Reverend Francis Kollie said the project, code named, ‘Promise Path’ is intended to provide education for children, whose parents are behind bars for the academic year 2026-2027
According to Rev. Kollie, no child should be denied to the opportunity to education because his or her parent are in conflict with the law and are behind bars.
“It is the rights of all children to have access to education,” he said; adding: “children of inmates should not be denied the rights to education simply because their parents are behind bars.”
The Prison Fellowship Liberia Country Director commended Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah for making elementary education free and encouraged parents to take advantage of this gesture.
Rev. Kollie decried the high fees charge in some of the private some in recent days and appealed to the government to intervene so as to reduce the high fees
He indicated that the PFL will soon begin introducing parents of beneficiaries to gardening and animal husbandry in order for them to fetch for themselves
“We will also be asking the Ministry of Agriculture for seeds of vegetables and we providing cattle and pigs as the same time, train you how to manage these initiatives for self-sufficiency,” Rev. Koliie added.
The Country Director of the PFL added that in the coming months, “our half way house will soon be opened purposely to rehabilitate drug affected youths.”
The PFL Country Director also unveiled plans to give these children some copy books, bags and cautioned them to be studious.
Kollie also made it clear that the methods will be on the watch to listen to hear that any teacher temper with some of these students will be exposed to the Education Ministry and the Government
At the end of the program, several of the students were certificated for their performances during the 2025-2026 academic years.
The program, which was held at the Paynesville Community School in in the suburb of Monrovia, was graced by children of inmates, parents and gradients.
