Rainstorm Kills 4 People, Others Injured In Nimba County, Liberia

Storm disaster has struck villages in Liberia northeastern Nimba County, leaving at least four persons including babies and their mothers dead.

In an interview conducted with the one of survival Linda Saywah explained that the incident occurred in Sarbogantuo Yeepuepea village, in Tappita District.

She said on Tuesday October 24, 2023, they were twenty (20) persons on the farm of Mr. Harrison Karn to pick peppers and to also harvest rice.

“Lately by evening hour at about 5:pm, i experienced a strong storm over the forest with a heavy down pull of rain, and we decided running under the kitchen for shelter, not knowing the terrible condition of the kitchen, considering the safety we heard a sound from outside, before i could make up my mine the kitchen has already dump over us.

I was the only person yelling and calling for rescue until the nearby villagers came to rescue my baby and I, even though we were seven ( 7) under the kitchen including our babies and Mr Harrison Karn 13, years old daughter,  my baby and I survived the incident through the grace of God”

Meanwhile, about four persons are reported dead so far, including Beauty Kruataye age 19, years and her 2 years old baby, oldman Kruataye, Why the other include Kpewonseh Wayingbah age 17, years. And her one(1) years two (2), months old baby Oilpa Wayingbah, Beauty Kruataye fiancee later narrated that his girlfriend was also three (3) months pregnant before her dismissed.

The district local authorities including LNP Tappita police detail witnessed the event and authorize the burial of the bodies in the farm.

However, Mr Harrison Karn owner of the farm is currently in the Tappita police custody undergoing investigation, why Linda Saywah is at the same time seeking treatment in Toweh Town.
