Series Of Mysterious Deaths Prompt Liberia Justice Ministry To Order Autopsies

Monrovia, Liberia- The Liberian Ministry of Justice on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 ordered post mortem examinations on the bodies of three persons who died under mysterious circumstances in recent  weeks.

Those whose remains will be subjected to autopsies are the son of former President William V. S. Tubman, Mr. John Hilary Tubman;, Maude Elliott, a female officer of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the son of another former President Williams R. Tolbert Jr, Mr. Williams R. Tolbert ,III who is Liberia’s peace Ambassador.

In a press release, the Justice Ministry said that the deceased persons were discovered dead in their homes during the early morning hours of September 22, October 31 and November 1, 2021, respectively.

The release further said that the Liberia National Police (LNP) has named Christian Byron Anderson and Williams V.S. Anderson, also known as Baby Shad, as persons of interest in the investigation of the death of John Tubman.

At the same time, the Monrovia City Magisterial Court has issued a Subpoena Duces tecum on two mobile phone companies–Orange and Lone Star GSM–mandating them to submit to the court the call log of the late Williams R. Tolbert III covering the period from October 2, 2021 to November 2,2021.

Subpoena Duces tecum is a writ ordering a person to attend a court and bring relevant documents.

The writ said:

“You are hereby commanded to proceed to the office of the Lone star communication Corporation situated any lying in Congo town, City of Monrovia and duly serve this on said management mandating it to submit to this Honorable Court call log of the late Williams R. Tolbert III covering the period of October 2 to November 2,2021.”

According to the writ, the subpoena is based upon the application hereto attached filed before this Honorable Court by the Ministry of Justice represented by and thru the office of the city solicitor assigned at the Monrovia City Magistrate Court at the Temple of Justice.

The writ added: ”That you are hereby further commanded that upon execution of the writ, you are to make your official returns endorsed at the back of the original of the writ as to the form and manner of service thereof and for so doing, it shall constitute your legal and sufficient authority.”
