House Speaker Bhoffal Chambers has reemphasized the need to bring to book perpetrators of the recent ritual killing in Maryland County, which sparked days of unrest in that part of the country.
This area is situated over 591 kilometers southeast of the Liberian capital, Monrovia.
Speaker Chambers also wants those who instigated the carnage in the aftermath of the murder punished. He had previously said the motive of the violent protests was to distract investigations into the murder.
Police have since arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a motorcyclist and student of the Pleebo High School, an act that has been linked to ritualistic killing which has historically been widespread in Maryland County.
The speaker is warning against any interference with the ongoing investigation and the justice system, saying he believes justice rendered in the case would serve as deterrence to would be perpetrators in the entire country.
Dr. Chambers said violence would only undermine development in the country and stimulate hatred in society. The reconstruction of properties damaged in the wake of the violence that followed the ritual killing, he suggested, should be treated as a secondary priority.
The Speaker’s House was among structures that suffered arson attacks, leaving it completely burned down.
