SPORTS: Football Resumes In Maryland County, Amid COVID-19 Restrictions Easing

HARPER, Liberia- Sixteen Communities in outside the southeastern port City of Harper, Maryland are participating in a Football Tournament Organized by the Maryland County Sports and Athletics  Commission, in the wake of the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions across the country.

The tournament is currently been played at the examination hall of Maryland Football, the Martha Tubman Sports Stadium on Saturdays and Sundays.

Maryland County Sports and Alethic Commission and Organizing Committee disclosed that the Tournament will feature 16 Sixteen Communities from Harper and its environs.

Communities taking part in the ongoing Tournament are:  Hoffman Station, Hens Street, New Kru Town ,Nekengbo, Barrabo Community and Stadium Road. Easy Town, Old Kru Town, Bonker Hill, Tubman Town, Lake Sherpherd and Airfield Communities will also be played during the weekend.

Speaking to Sports Journalists during the opening ceremony, the competition’s Chairperson, Mr. Philip Toe said the Competition is intended to Spark Young and talented Players who might play for Maryland County for the upcoming National County Meet to be played in December this year.

Toe noted that the Tournament will last for one month and all matches will be played at the Martha Tubman Sports Stadium in the Port City of Harper.

The tournament is featuring young and talented players that are expected to make up the Maryland County Football Team in preparations for forthcoming National County Meet.

“MCASC is collaborating with the Ministries of Youth and Sports and the Internal Affairs and this tournament was also organized to help us get players for the upcoming National County Meet.”
