SPORTS: The Liberia Marathon 10k Race Kicks Off Soon, Athletes In Wheelchairs Participating

The Liberia Marathon, Liberia’s only official long-distance race, returns to Monrovian roads shortly.

Organizers of the Marathon are informing all Liberians that a great 10-kilometer race is organized on Sunday, November 28, 2021.

The race is opened for all runners, beginners or advanced level, with no matter of age (only: minimum age is 14 years) or income. Female runners are especially encouraged to sign up. The Liberia Marathon also welcomes athletes in wheelchairs and on crutches.

The course will lead the runners from JFK area/ Tubman Boulevard, Sinkor to SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville where finishers will be welcomed with great applause and some refreshments. There will be also refreshment along the course to assure the well-being of the participants.

A statement from the organizers say registration costs are 300 LD/ 2 USD. Registration is open until Sunday, November 21. Runners can register at different registration spots in Monrovia, for example at Brussels Airlines Office at Tubman Boulevard, Inter-Digital Computer School at Benson Street, the Business Start-Up Center at UL Campus and at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Registration is also possible every Saturday and Sunday early morning at SKD Sports Complex and at Benson Hill, Mamba Point or online (credit card required).

All runners will receive a T-Shirt before the race and a medal once they have crossed the finish line. Special prices are waiting for the winners in the male and female category.

The Liberia Marathon has a long history in the country: The inaugural race took place in 2011 with the first ever marathon held in the country, followed by equally successful editions in 2013 and 2015. Liberia Marathon appreciate the opportunity to now continue its activities with strong Government and private sector partners.

Exercising and running is contributive for physical and mental health, helps to reduce the daily stress and get a free mind. It strengthens the entire body and makes it stronger and more resilient. Running also united the society in one shared activity.

The Liberia Marathon is an extraordinary civic event, symbolic of the endurance, determination and resilience Liberians have shown over the years. It provides a unique chance to all interested Liberian to participate in a running competition, even with electronic chip timing.

The 10 Kilometer race event on November 28, 2021 is the first part of the Liberia Marathon race series 2021/2022 which will continue in May 2022 with a fully-fledged marathon race over 42.2 Kilometer / 26.2 miles and other running events.
