A young and prominent Manager of one of Liberia’s outstanding Community radio stations, Christopher Yarwoe of Magic FM in the southern port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County has been given his flowers for hard professional work and commitment.

Broadcast Journalist Yarwoe was honored recently by the Friends of the Bassa program organization that has more than 200 members in Grand Bassa County.

“The work you do speaks for you depending how you serve the community. People see what you do more than yourself especially when ur work impacts the lives of so many,” he said.

“Surprisingly, they gave me a Bassa name “Glaykporkpe”, meaning “The Power of God,” Mr. Yarwoe said.

They group praised Yarwoe and Magic FM, describing it as one of the success stories today in running a community radio stations.

Magic Fm has in the past few years been able to acquire its own land and construct a decent and spacious radio building in Harlansville, on the outskirts of Buchanan, some 88 miles from the Liberian capital, Monrovia.

Community Radios have grown from strength to strength throughout Liberia, with over fifty now operating in the country, since an upsurge in the early 2000s amidst the Liberian civil conflict.

These radios serve as the only source of news, information, education and entertainment for many in large parts of rural Liberia.

“It happened during the sashing and crowning of the queen, mother Irene Boe who will serve in the position for one year. They have been very supportive to the radio station including many others that we cannot name. We say thank you! For those who have built our capacity and equipped us with the tools like IREX  to diligently and efficiently  perform our journalistic duty without any fear or favor, I also say thank you. Without our persistence and determination and your moral and financial support, I wouldn’t have gotten such an honor. Let God bless you all,” said Magic FM’s Manager, Yarwoe.
