In recent times, the US-funded Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), which manages the US257 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Liberia Compact has got negative publicity in the local media for the way it awarded contract for the operation of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and other matters.
The MCA project in Liberia is being managed by a Liberia, who was one-time the country’s Foreign Minister, Moni R. Captan.
In a rare move defending the stewardship of the MCA Liberia, US Ambassador to Liberia, Christine Elder on Thursday, April 5, 2018 sent an open letter to local media editors/Liberian Journalism Community detailing “what makes the MCC model different from other forms of US assistance..”
The American envoy also explains “… how the Liberia Compact has many features to ensure accountability, financial management, etc.”
A full text of the US envoy’s letter is attached.
