Volunteers Hub Liberia Launches “Help University Students Archive” Project

A local not-for-profit organization, Volunteers Hub Liberia has launched a hands-on-training project for 20 university students attending several Universities and higher institutions of learning in Monrovia.

They are the African Methodist Episcopal University, the University of Liberia, the United Methodist University and the Adventist University of West Africa. Other universities include, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University, the Stella Maris Polytechnic University and the Smythe Institute of Management and Technology.

The project titled, Help University Students Achieve is a three-month project that is being funded by Project Change International and the Price L. Jarbo Foundation.

According to Menue Bainda, the Executive of Volunteers Hub Liberia, the project’s objective is to help young university students become independent, contribute to their communities and be prepared to compete in the job market after graduation through basic computer training, Job readiness training and entrepreneurship training.

Giving the overview of the project earlier this week, Volunteers Hub Liberia office in Monrovia, Mr. Bainda said, the fund of the project cost is US$250.00 and was made available from Project Change International Change Markers Conference of 2020. This is a program of Project Change International that seeks to train youth organizations and provide small grants to youth organizations that present best ideas for the implementation of its National Vision Plan.

The Volunteers Hub Liberia’s Executive Director extended thanks to Project Change International and the Prince L. Jarbo Foundation for the funds.

He called on participants to see the project as an opportunity that will lead them to job employment while in school or after graduation. He added that participants of the project are freshmen, junior, sophomore and senior students that were selected from pool of 82 applicants that applied to attend the program.

Speaking on behalf of Project Change International, the Acting Program Officer, Prince S. Paul, lauded Volunteers Hub Liberia for her efforts made in helping to empower young people in Liberia.

He said that his organization is proud of being a partner to Volunteers Hub Liberia. He added that his organization will continue to maintain a good relationship with Volunteers Hub Liberia as both institutions work to empower young people in Liberia.

Making remarks on behalf of the project beneficiaries, a Criminal Justice student of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University, Mana P. Koroma, told participants attending the launch program that he is happy to be selected amongst 82 applicants that applied for the program and motivated his fellow beneficiaries to take the program very serious as a means of encouraging Volunteers Hub Liberia to continue the program after the first phase. He called on his colleagues to also take the knowledge and skills acquired from the training back to their various institutions to train other students.

Volunteers Hub Liberia (VHL) is a Not-for profit organization, registered with the Government of Liberia and works with youths across Liberia. VHL works with grass root youth groups and stakeholders to ensure youth empowerment and youth participation in local and national governance and in decision-making processes that directly affect their lives and as well as to promote the SDGs.
