The Co-founder of Prime Pantten Farms Group of Companies, Hawa Wleh has called on Liberians in the diaspora to invest in Liberia, particularly in the country’s agricultural and poultry sectors.
Wleh said Liberia presents significant opportunities for investment and urged Liberians abroad to consider contributing to the country’s development through investments and partnerships.
Speaking in an interview with state radio on Monday, Wleh said Liberians should take greater responsibility for national development rather than relying solely on government.
She noted that while citizens often criticize the government for the country’s slow pace of development, government alone cannot address all of Liberia’s development needs.
According to Wleh, Liberians in the diaspora have an important role to play by investing their resources, skills and expertise in sectors that can contribute to economic growth and job creation.
Prime Pantten Farms Group of Companies is a growing Liberian agribusiness that evolved from Pantten Farms, a poultry-focused farming venture.
Wleh said the company is seeking more investors and players in the poultry sector, stressing that the industry requires greater participation to meet the growing demand for locally produced eggs and poultry products.
“We cannot produce eggs for a population of five million people alone,” Wleh said, emphasizing the need for additional investors to enter the poultry industry and help expand domestic production.
She believes increased investment in the sector could strengthen Liberia’s agricultural economy, reduce dependence on imported poultry products and create employment opportunities for Liberians.
Meanwhile, Wleh identified the importation of yellow corn, a key ingredient in poultry feed, as well as the high cost of feeding chicks, among the major challenges confronting her farming operation.
She is therefore calling on the national government, private investors and well-meaning Liberians to collaborate with Prime Pantten Farms Group of Companies to address the challenges facing the poultry industry.
Wleh said stronger partnerships between government, local businesses and Liberians in the diaspora could help unlock Liberia’s agricultural potential and contribute to sustainable national development.
